2022 Schedule

Tour of Town and Village of Glen, Montgomery County NY

Saturday, June 18, 2022, 10:30 AM

Host: Wally Wheeler

We'll meet at the parking lot of the Dutch Reformed Church (mailing address for locating in mapping: 1526 NY-161, Fultonville, NY 12072) and then proceed to the Glen Conservancy Hall where local historian Wanda Burch will give us a brief introduction to the community. We will then go on a walking tour of the hamlet, spending some time in a New World Dutch barn among other sites.

We'll have lunch at the Glen Country Store (or, if our group is large, we'll return to Conservancy Hall with our lunches), before touring at least one more site in the hamlet.

In the afternoon (at about 2PM), we'll travel just one mile south to 141 Reynolds Road and visit the Smith-Voorhees-Covenhoven house, which has recently been listed on the National Register. The house is an interesting example of a two-story H-bent framed dwelling from the post-Revolutionary period, and incorporates some earlier features.

Directions from the east and south:

Follow I-87 N and I-90 W to NY-30 S in Amsterdam.

Take exit 27 from I-90 W [30 min (32.9 mi)]

Drive to NY-161 W in Glen [12 min (8.9 mi)]

Turn left onto NY-30 S [2.0 mi]

Continue straight onto NY-161 W. The Dutch Reformed Church (1526 NY-161) is on your right.

Directions from the hamlet of Glen to 141 Reynolds Road: Take NY Route 30A south. Take your first left on Reynolds Road - the house is the first one on the left. Couldn't be simpler!

Scenic option for those traveling from Hudson and points further south, which will take approximately 20 mins more: Travel via Route 23 or 32, then on to Route 145 as far as Middleburgh in Schoharie County, then north on Route 30 until it turns into Route 30A and then enters the hamlet of Glen.
