Mohawk Valley Tour

June 21, 2025

10:00am - Noon
Voorhees-Berick-Vanderveer Farm - hosted by Jamie Juckett
548 Lynk St, Sprakers NY 12166

Located then, in the Town of Charleston, NY. Situated on Lot #113 of the 1737 Corry's Patent there still stands a home and New World Dutch Barn. The home was built in two stages. The rear being circa 1796 is a small 21' x 24', 1 1/2 story consisting of 9" x 8" timber framing, 2" x 4" walls, plank flooring and clapboard siding. This was a modest dwelling for the area at the time. The front, circa 1820, being of a Federal style with hints of Greek Revival. The size and style were above average for this area in the 1820's. Both sections still retain many of their original elements. About 200 feet to the southwest, in its original location, stands the New World Dutch barn - a four bay barn measuring approximately 40' x 40'.

We welcome you to join us for this is the first time the house and barn will be open for review and assessment.

Noon - 12:30 drive time to Parkside Drive-In
7485 NY-5, St. Johnsville NY 13452

12:30 - 1:15 pm
Lunch at Parkside

1:30 - 2:00
Triumpho Family Barn
245 Triumpho Rd, St. Johnsville NY 13452

This barn, built in 1801, is the epitome of a cathedral to agriculture. Now under restoration, it was a dairy barn with spectacular elements of craftmanship that still remain.

2:00 - 4:00
279 Triumpho Rd,
St. Johnsville NY 13452

This barn was built in two stages. The first, built in 1780 has a large "swing beam" in the hay loft. The front (newer) half was built ca. 1840 by Christian Vedder using some reclaimed hand-hewn beams along with many others sawn by Clark A. Burgdorf at his mill in St. Johnsville.

At this location, there will be a presentation by Dick Triumpho (age 94), author of the book "Round Barns of NY." Dick will tell the tale of his search for round barns in NY and the project that resulted in that foundational book. Anyone wishing to buy the book and get it signed by Dick can do so this week (he doesn't have copies on hand) through Longleaf fulfillment 1-800-848-6224 or Amazon.
